Kirkwood Spring Fling '07 musicianSome of the outstanding performances to be hosted at the Kirkwood Spring Fling this year are:

Vortex Park 11:45 am - 12:20 pm

Strings, strings and more strings - this is Atlanta-based band Vortex Park’s focus in which they center their diverse abilities as a musical quartet. There was something among all those varieties that not only allowed them to combine the genres, but to break through them to form something simple, charming and different. The large double bass is the first stage item that catches the spectator’s eyes, and the jazz deeply rooted in Justin Roberts’ style of play sets a smooth line for the audience to mock-strum the table as if it really were so large an instrument. Next, Rurik Nunan’s violin takes on many forms, flowing from neo-classical violin through one song to a bluegrass-fiddle the next, charming the audience’s ears. The percussion is present in the form of drums and bongos with Brad Stott keeping the beat behind them and a rhythm for the dance floor. Alex Wolf, guitarist and vocalist for has quite a repertoire of acoustic styles. He completes the string section with his folk, Americana, jazz and Latin riffs, allowing the listeners catch an array of sweet acoustic styles.

Mary Delaney 12:45 pm - 1:20 pm
www.myspace.com/marydelaneyrocks
According to About Atlanta songwriter Mary Delaney "offers polished, well-written and catchy songs," "has a knack for thought-provoking observations" and "brings a modern edge to the torch song material that is unique and refreshing." Country Alt. Country in Belgium writes that she's "reminiscent of Stevie Nicks." Indie-Music.com finds her "Unique in her approach to rock" and Southeast Performer writes that "Mary Delaney is an artist on a mission for success." Mary's roots rock band "Letters to Mary" can be found on iTunes, daemonrecords.com, cdbaby.com/cd/letterstomary, Decatur CD, and Kirkwood's Gitche Ya Ya.

Strato-Geezer 1:50 pm - 2:30 pm

Being land-locked hasn’t kept this high-energy trio from bringing raw, reverb-driven sounds to surf music junkies in the metro Atlanta area for over 4 years now. Influenced by masters such as The Ventures and Dick Dale, Strato-Geezer is guaranteed to take you from the beach, into outer space, and splashing back down into the waves like an out-of-control Soviet spacecraft. Their repertoire includes numerous surf classics with a few unexpected surprises thrown in. Strato-Geezer is Rob Kaufman (Guitar/Bass), Thom Brewer (Guitar/Bass), and Mike Perez (Drums).

The Ricky McKinnie Singers 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Gareth Asher 4:30 pm - 5:15 pm

If you could harness the power in Gareth Asher’s music you’d have enough hi-octane passion to fuel a Ferrari. Born and raised in the small town of Bowdon , GA, Gareth was exposed at an early age to the music of iconic artists like Jackson Browne, Don Henley and The Eagles, groups he now counts as some of his biggest influences. But everything changed one day in 1987, when, at the age of seven, Gareth woke up one morning to the sweet sounds of Otis Redding flowing through the rooms of his childhood home. Since then, Gareth has been addicted to the sweet grooves of the late 60s and early 70s, especially those emanating from Motown, and has made it his undertaking to channel many of those sounds in his music today. " I just want to make people feel something, the way I do" says Asher. As a singer, songwriter, and guitarist raised on a steady diet of old school funk, rock, and soul, Gareth also attributes many of his musical sensibilities to monumentally influential artists like Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, and groups like Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire. On the rock side of things, his primary influences are more contemporary - Toad the Wet Sproket, Aqualung, and Amos Lee among them. After teaming up with multi-talented, veteran producer and musician, Clay Cook, in 2004, Gareth recorded the first of his two records with Clay, where the fingerprints of his heroes still remain, but now revealed in his own way - an experience Gareth has described as extremely humbling and knowledgable. At this early stage in his career, Gareth has played, toured, and recorded with some great bands and musicians. He has experienced the tornado world of the music industry and learned that to survive you need more than talent—you need steely resolve and thick skin. But Gareth Asher decided at the early age of seven that music is his path, and today he wants everyone within range of his powerful and passionate voice to know it!
