“I try to create forms that are subtle in shape, forms that aren’t overbearing, and use texture, patterns, and images to stimulate not only the person visually, but also through touch.”
“As much as I try to fight it sometimes, I’m still part engineer. That part of my personality influences me to make pots that are both functional and sound in structural form. It is also the reason why I enjoy the technical aspect of throwing on the wheel verses hand-building. The way I adorn my pots with texture and pattern is where I try to express the artist side and attempt to hide my inner-engineer.“

Having discovered pottery my last semester of college, I have continued a life long love affair with clay. It is such a joy to put a lump of clay on the wheel and form it into something that others can use and enjoy. Raku, stoneware and porcelain—all are great fun. The stoneware and porcelain are functional and can go into the oven and dishwasher. Prices range from $10 to $100.

Lori Buff
Lori Buff is a local artist creating unique functional and sculptural pottery using a variety of local clays. Most of her art is created on the potter’s wheel; some pieces are then altered. Sculptural works are fired using alternative techniques such as raku, salt, and naked raku. Lori’s latest works are the Emergence series and the Architectural series where the past is artfully brought into the present through imagery and texture.
She is excited to be a part of the Kirkwood Spring Fling.
